The Morbi bridge collapsed Case

Oreva Group MD surrendered before the court.


On 31 January 2023, Jaysukh Patel managing director of Ajanta manufacturing private limited (AMPL) of the Oreva group surrendered before the court of chief justice magistrate (CJM) M J Khan in a case of the Morbi bridge collapse and later he was sent to the judicial custody.

The incident took place on 30 October last year after the repair of the bridge in Gujarat that resulted in the death of nearly 135 people.

Following the chargesheet containing 1,262 pages filed by the deputy superintendent of police P S Zala in the CJM’s court last week. The chief justice magistrate issued an arrest warrant against Jaysukh Patel along with nine other members who were responsible for the operation and the managing of the British-era suspension bridge that collapsed over the Machchhu River in Morbi.

According to the police, nine people have been arrested so far including the two managers and ticket booking clerks who were managing the British era bridge.

As per the information, on 20 January Patel also filed an anticipatory bail in the Morbi session court but the hearing was postponed to February 1 because of the absence of the public prosecutor.
