Third vaccine for India, Sputnik V gets approval

India ready with third vaccine


Russia's Covid vaccine Sputnik V has been approved by experts and now recommended to be used in India.Sputnik V manufactured in India by Dr Reddy's has the highest effectiveness of 91.6 percent after Moderna and Pfizer shots.

According to the subject experts committee (SEC's) recommendation the vaccine has to be greenlit by the Drug Controller General of India before it can be widely used to inoculate citizens. Sputnik V is on track for clearance amid complaints of vaccine shortage from many states.

Sputnik V named after the first Soviet Space Satellite works on the principle of a weakened  Covid-19 virus delivering parts of a pathogen that triggers an immune response in the body. This vaccine can be stored at 2 to 8 degrees. According to government officials, it said that five more vaccines will be in use by Oct in India.
