Third-wave to Hit India by February; Scientist

Omicron Alert!

With the spread of the new variant Omicron, the threat of getting infected with SARS CoV2 is high. India is reeling with 23 cases of the new variant Omicron.

According to the IIT scientist, they have warned about the third wave which is likely to hit India by February. As per the statement given by Manindra Agarwal, IIT scientists said that it will be milder than the second wave. "With the new variant, our current forecast is that the country could see the third wave by February but it will be milder than the second wave. So far we have seen that the severity of omicron is not like the one seen in the delta variant”, said to PTI news agency.

The scientist also added, "It looks like although the new variant has shown high transmissibility, its severity is not like the delta. As observed by the spread of Delta, a mild lockdown (night curfew, restrictions on crowding) can bring down beta substantially that will significantly reduce the peak”.

Also, the world health organization (WHO) has called omicron, the new variant as “Variant of Concern" which has really created concern among the people to move out and to travel. The experts have expressed possibilities that owing to the genetic modification in the virus, it may possess some specific characteristics.

The omicron tally has touched 23 cases in India. Out of it, two new cases were reported and 17 of them were reported on Sunday, around 9 from Rajasthan's Jaipur, seven from Maharashtra's Pune, and one from Delhi.
