Tokyo Olympics: Mirabai Chanu wins silver medal in weightlifting

Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the first medal in the Tokyo Olympics. She won a silver medal for weightlifting in the 49 kg category of the Women's weightlifting event. She became the first Indian weightlifter to win a silver at the Olympics.

She lifted a total of 202 kg (87kg in snatch and 115kg in clean and jerk). China's Zhihui Hou bagged gold by lifting a total of 210 kg and created a new Olympic record whereas Indonesia's Windy Cantika Aisah won bronze by lifting a total of 194 kg.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Mirabai Chanu on winning the silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics. According to the tweet, he said, "Could not have asked for a happier start to @tokyo2020! India is elated by @mirabai_chanu's stupendous performance. Congratulations to her for winning the silver medal in Weightlifting. Her success motivates every Indian."
