Under 19 Asia Cup to begin from December 23 in UAE

Yash Dhull will lead India in the U-19 tournament


The Asia Cup will begin on 23 December 2021 and will be held in the United Arab Emirates. The 2021-2022 U-19 Asia Cup is the 9th edition of the ACC U-19 Cup. Eight teams will participate in the tournament, including five full members and three qualifiers.

 

The five full members are India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. The teams that have qualified for this year’s U-19 tournament are Kuwait, Nepal and UAE.

 

The All-India Junior selection committee has made Delhi Batsman Yash Dull the captain of the Indian Team.

 

Dhull was the leading run-scorer in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy earlier this year. He managed to score 302 runs for the DDCA at a phenomenal average of 75.50 in five matches.

 

The selectors also announced a 25- member squad for a preparatory camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru from December 11 to 19 ahead of the event: Harnoor Singh Pannu, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Ansh Gosai, S K Rasheed, Yash Dhull (captain), Anneshwar Gautam, Siddhart Yadav, Kaushal Tambe, Nishant Sindhu, Dinesh Bana (wk), Aaradhya Yadav (wk), Rajangad Bawa, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Garv Sangwan, Ravi Kumar, Rishith Reddy, Manva Parakh, Amrit Raj, Vicky Ostwal, Vasu Vats ( subject to fitness clearance).

 

Standby players who will attend NCA camp: Ayush Singh Thakur, Uday Sharan, Shashwat Dangwal, Dhanush Gowda, PM Singh Rathore.

 

The squad for the U-19 World Cup, scheduled to be held in January-February 2022 in the West Indies, will be announced later.

 

India will play their opening match against the hosts of the tournament on December 23, but every cricket fans eyes will be on 25 December’s match when India will go against their arch-rivals Pakistan.

Two-time defending champions have won the U-19 Asia Cup six times in the last eight editions while sharing the coveted trophy with Pakistan in 2012.
