Centre gives written assurance to Farmers


On Wednesday the central government sent a ‘written assurance’ regarding continuation of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for procurement by the government, as the protest enters 14 day. 

A total number of 13 agitating Farmer unions were sent this draft by the government assuring registration of all private mandis to enable AMPC to have a better grip. The written assurance sent by the government stated that “The government has tried to address the concern of the farmers with an open heart and with respect to the farmer community of the country. The government appeals to the Kisan unions to end their agitation.

The meeting with Amit Shah and farmers’ representatives last night failed to break the deadlock. The meeting was called off with the Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar after the farmers’ leaders refused to be present.

A four hour ‘Bharat Bandh’ or ‘All India Lockdown’ was observed on Tuesday, December 8 affected normal lives in some states.

One farmer leader said that the government’s amendment proposal clearly points out that it is not ready to repeal the farm laws 2020.

The President of India Ram Nath Kovind today will be meeting a delegation of senior opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Sharad Pawar Chief of the NCP and left leaders like Sitaram Yechury and D Raja. They would seek intervention by the President to find a solution against the ongoing farmers’ protest. The opposition leaders will urge to accept the primary demands of the farmers which is to repeal the controversial farm laws.
