UP: Yogi Adityanath announces weekly lockdown on Sunday, fine of upto Rs 10,000 for second mask violation

The CM announced a fine of Rs 1,000 for those who are caught without a mask for the first time and a fine of upto Rs 10,000 for those who violate the rule for the second time.


Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced lockdown on Sunday in the wake of Covid surge in the state. The CM also announced a fine of Rs 1,000 for those who are caught without a mask for the first time and a fine of upto Rs 10,000 for those who violate the rule for the second time.

The state government on Friday announced stricter rules to curb the pandemic. Yogi ordered a weekly lockdown in the state whereas essential services will be allowed. According to the officials, this shall be a weekly feature. Night curfew has already been enforced in 10 districts from 7 pm to 8 am. 

On Thursday, the state government announced closure of schools till May 15 and also postponed state board exams after the highest-single day spike of Covid cases were reported since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.

"Corona curfew to be effective from 8 pm to 7 am in all 10 districts with more than 2,000 active cases including Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur Nagar, Gautam Budh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Gorakhpur," tweeted Yogi Adityanath on Thursday. State capital Lucknow, Prayagraj and Varanasi top the list of worst-affected districts of the state.

Yesterday, Varanasi district administration had urged visitors to cancel their trip to the city and also ordered to present a negative RT-PCR test report not more than 3 days old before entering the famous temples of the city.
