US issues advisory to avoid all travel to India, even if fully vaccinated

The top medical body of the US, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated that even fully vaccinated people may be at risk of contracting and spreading Covid-19 variants and should avoid travelling to India.

The US government has issued an advisory to the citizens of America to avoid all travel to India amid a sudden surge in Covid-19 cases in the country. The top medical body of the US, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated that even fully vaccinated people may be at risk of contracting and spreading Covid-19 variants and should avoid travelling to India.

The CDC also advised travellers to get all vaccine doses before travelling (if the journey is unavoidable) and to follow all Covid protocols. The CDC added that if one is fully vaccinated, then he/she does not have to get tested before leaving the United States, unless his/her destination requires it and he/she does not have to self-quarantine after arriving in the United States.

The CDC has also placed the country in the highest category, Level 4 which implies "very high level of Covid-19." "If you must travel to India, get fully vaccinated before travel. All travelers should wear a mask, stay 6 feet from others, avoid crowds, and wash their hands," the CDC advisory said. On Sunday, India recorded its highest ever spike in new Covid-19 cases at over 2.7 lakh.
