Nilgiris is considered among the prominent tourist areas. After keeping the public crowd in mind, the state has decided to mandate vaccination certificates to purchase alcohol. Nilgiris collector Divya announced that only vaccinated people are allowed to buy alcohol and they should show their vaccination certificate at the counter at the time of buying alcohol.

According to the statement,  the collector said, "In the Nilgiris, we have vaccinated 97 per cent of the residents and are updating the Covid portal. We found that a few have said that they consume alcohol and therefore, are not willing to take the Covid-19 vaccine. To cover them under the vaccination program, it was decided that anyone who wishes to buy alcohol should show his/her vaccine certificate at the counter or else alcohol will not be sold to them," read the order.
