Omicron Concern

On Tuesday, the Niti Aayog member VK Paul said that there is a chance of our vaccines becoming ineffective in emerging situations. Amid concern over the new variant, he stressed the need to be ready to modify the vaccine as per the requirement.

He also hoped that Covid in India is possibly moving in the direction of endemicity.

The cases of omicron are concerning, the National capital witnessed four new cases of omicron on Tuesday after which the fear among the population is getting high.

According to the statement given by VK Paul he said, "we have experienced Delta shock and now omicron shock...there is a potential scenario that our vaccines may become ineffective in emerging situations in wake of the last three weeks of living with Omicron, we have seen how doubts have come up, some of them may be genuine, we still don't have a final picture”.

Further added, "How soon can we create a vaccine which is using the same platform but is now targeted to the variant of the day  ...We may have to think about how we go about doing it….moving from the rapid development of generic vaccine; we have to be ready to be able to have a situation where resiliently we are able to modify the vaccine as require (d). This may not happen every three months but this could happen every year perhaps. Therefore this needs to be factored in."

Covid-19 led New Variant Omicron is concerning all across the world. The cases are speeding up and also, other countries are facing a lot of problems. Meanwhile, India has imposed a travel ban from omicron-infected countries to curb the infection level.
