Vivo to sponsor IPL 2021

The Vivo funding agreement with BCCI, which costs Rs. 440 crore per year, was suspended last season due to the Sino-India border following a violent conflict in eastern Ladakh, has been revived

Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Vivo will return to sponsor the IPL this season after his attempts to transfer rights to another company failed as the offer was "not expected". The Vivo funding agreement with BCCI, which costs Rs. 440 crore per year, was suspended last season due to the Sino-India border following a violent conflict in eastern Ladakh. "The offer provided by Dream11 and Unacademy was not expected from Vivo this year, so they have decided to take it for themselves to test next year," a BCCI source told PTI. Dream11 was the sponsor of the IPL title for 2020 program, acquiring 222 crore rights, which was almost part of what Vivo paid annually for a five-year contract

Vivo won five IPL title sponsorship rights from 2018 to 2022 with a reported amount of Rs. 2190 crore. The situation against China in the country has escalated significantly after clashes between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley. India has lost 20 soldiers in the war, while China has also admitted that there are unknown casualties.

The suspension of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) has caused outrage throughout India over numerous phone calls to boycott Chinese companies and products. It was in this context that Vivo and BCCI decided to suspend the 2020 season agreement, which was held in the UAE due to the COVID-19 epidemic. Half of the annual Vivo funding is distributed equally among the eight franchises.
