West Bengal extends Covid-19 curbs till January 15

The State Reported Omicron Case


On Wednesday, the West Bengal State Government extended the Covid-19 led restrictions and all the ongoing protocols till January 15.  This decision came into focus after the state witnessed the first case of the new Covid Variant omicron.



As per the order, "restrictions to the movement of people and vehicles between 11 pm and 5 am shall be relaxed for Christmas and New year celebration during December 24 and Jan 1." Shops, restaurants, and bars are permitted to open as per the normal timing and late closing of bars may be permitted as per the extant rules.



West Bengal reported the first case of Covid led omicron; the case was reported at a seven-year-old boy from Murshidabad who got tested positive for omicron. According to the information given by a senior official, it said," the boy flew with his parents from Abu Dhabi to Hyderabad, where he tested positive for omicron. He had not entered Hyderabad city. He returned to Kolkata on December 11. The state health department was alerted about his omicron report by authorities in Hyderabad only on Wednesday morning."



According to the statement given by the Government," District administration, police Commissionerates, and local authorities shall ensure strict compliance of the stated directives."



Covid-19 led omicron is concerning and many states are implementing guidelines and protocols to curb the infection. With the arrival of upcoming Christmas and New Year, many states have also imposed restrictions and banned public gatherings for respective places.
