West Bengal makes RT-PCR mandatory for travelers arriving from 7 international countries

As per the statement, the test would be a paid service at Netaji Subhas Chandra International Airport, Kolkata. Whereas for free service, the travelers would be sent to Chittranjan National Cancer Institute.


With the spike in Covid-19 cases, few states are issuing travelling guidelines to stop the spread of the virus. The West Bengal government on Tuesday made it mandatory for international passengers from seven more countries including Bangladesh, China and South Africa to undergo RT-PCR tests on arrival in the state even if they are fully vaccinated, said a senior official. Adding more, the official said the four other such countries are New Zealand, Mauritius, Zimbabwe and Botswana. The practice would start on Wednesday.

According to an official statement, ´We are following the directive of the ministry of health and family welfare… what is already being done with passengers from or transiting through the UK or Brazil.” As per the statement, the test would be a paid service at Netaji Subhas Chandra International Airport, Kolkata. Whereas for free service, the travelers would be sent to Chittranjan National Cancer Institute.

According to a health bulletin, seven persons in the state have succumbed to COVID-19 which took the death toll to 18,522.

Meanwhile, many states are implementing new guidelines in wake of Covid-19 and the upcoming festival of Ganesh Chaturthi which will boost up the travelling crowd during the holiday and festive season.
