A day after the Delhi Police filed two FIRs against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for allegedly sexually assaulting female wrestlers, the Wrestlers Federation of India (WFI) chief declared on Saturday that he is innocent and will not quit from his position.

The press conference took place amid demonstrations by the wrestlers in New Delhi's Jantar Mantar. Top Indian wrestlers staged a protest against the WFI's chief and other trainers for allegedly sexually abusing female wrestlers.

In response to the wrestlers' demand that Brij Bhushan quit as WFI President, he stated, "Resignation is not a big deal, but I am not a criminal." If I resign, it means I've accepted their (the wrestlers') charges. My contract is coming to an end. The government has constituted a three-person committee, elections will be held in 45 days, and my tenure will finish after the polls."

Olympic medalist Bajran Punia took to Instagram on Friday to claim that electricity had been switched off at the wrestlers' protest camp. Punia accused the Delhi Police of halting food and water supplies at Jantar Mantar, adding that barricades had also been erected. Wrestlers were also urged to stop protesting minutes after FIRs were filed, he said during an Instagram live session.

Punia informed media that the officers are putting them under pressure following the Supreme Court's notice to Delhi Police, alleging that the ACP claimed they will not allow food and drink in no matter what.
