Woman Wrestler Anshu Malik Creates History

Wrestler Anshu has the chance to become the second Indian wrestler to become world champion after Sushil Kumar in 2010.

Anshu Malik made history on Wednesday by becoming the first Indian female wrestler to reach the final of the World Wrestling Championship when she defeated junior European champion Solomiia Vynnyk in the 57kg class.

Anshu, the 19-year-old reigning Asian champion, controlled the semi-finals from the start and won the entry in the history books through technical superiority. Only four Indian wrestlers have won medals in the World Cup and all of them have achieved bronze. Wrestler Anshu has the chance to become the second Indian wrestler to become world champion after Sushil Kumar in 2010.

"It's extremely satisfying. I'm very happy. It feels so good. What I couldn't do at the Tokyo Games, I did here. She performed takedown moves from Vynnyk's left side at least three times and ended the fight with an exposure move”. The Nidani girl only started in the senior group in 2020 and has made steady progress since then.

Before that, she was hardly annoyed by Kazakhstan's Nilufar Raimova, who she defeated because of her technical superiority and then defeated Davaachimeg Erkhembayar 5-1 from Mongolia in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Sarita Mor is fighting for bronze after losing her semi-final to reigning European champion from Bulgaria Bilyana Zhivkova Duodova 0-3. Earlier, Sarita surprised defending champion Linda Morais 8-2 in her opening match and defeated German Sandra Paruszewski 3-1 in the quarter-finals.

In the 72 kg division, Divya Kakran surprised Kseniia Burakova with a victory, but lost to the U-23 world champion of Japan, Masako Furuich due to technical superiority. Divya's hasty moves and excessive aggression cost her the quarter-finals against the Japanese.
