World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (Nov 18-24) - Theme 2021: " Spread Awareness, Stop Resistance"

WHO hosts this week to create awareness about antibiotic resistance

Living in the 21st century means running against time for making status, money and happiness. But, most people suffer to make this happen every time. Ugh! it is a part of life. One day is happy another day might not be the same. But, gradually due to these things a person might fall ill, tired and stressed out. Then people switch towards self-medications. But, using medicine like antibiotics or antimicrobials may result in causing drug diseases. So, to prevent the cause of extensive medications, "World Antimicrobial Awareness Week" is celebrated from November 18- November 24 every year to spread awareness of antibiotic or antimicrobial resistance.

"World Antimicrobial Awareness Week- (WAAW)" is hosted by the World Health Organisation (WHO) annually. WAAW Theme 2021-  ‘Spread Awareness, Stop Resistance.’

The goal is to raise global awareness of antibiotic or antimicrobial resistance. This week highlights the importance of adhering to appropriate healthcare practices to avoid the establishment and spread of drug-resistant diseases.

Everything is useful when it is consumed in a specific amount but if overuse something, it is surely harmful. Similarly, in the case of taking medicines, overuse of drugs causes severe illness and may end up in addiction.

Antibiotic resistance occurs when bacteria adapt to avoid being killed by an antibiotic. This can make treating bacterial infections considerably more difficult, if not impossible. Antibiotic overuse and abuse exacerbate the problem of antibiotic resistance. We are both a part of the issue and a part of the remedy.

Antibiotics are important for contemporary medication and should only be taken under a Doctor's supervision. However, it has become troublesome due to human overuse and misuse.

This concept was first proposed in Europe, 2007. Following this resolution, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) convened meetings to explore the issue and develop a plan. They also planned to create resources and equipment that would be sent to various countries.

During this week, Healthcare personnel gather together to create awareness around the globe about " Antibiotic Resistance". Also, advise the people or patients not to take any medications without a prescription.

It also urges us to learn more about antibiotic fundamentals so that we are prepared with details and questions when we see a doctor, assisting them in reaching the correct diagnosis and recommending proper therapy.

Finally, this week also urges people to get motivated about one's life, as sadness is not always the clouds of one's sky, There is always a lot more to come - Happiness is always the key to success.
