On Wednesday, 31 May 2023, Delhiites woke up to a fresh and pleasant morning after a spell of rain in Delhi.

The city observed heavy rain showers and thunderstorms. It affected vehicular movement and due to which several flights were diverted.

"Due to bad weather in the National Capital, 10 Delhi-bound flights were diverted (nine from Jaipur and one from Lucknow) between 6.25 pm and 8 pm," an airport official said in a statement.

Delhi experienced moderate to severe thunderstorms with lightning and speedy winds, reaching speeds of 70-80 kilometers per hour, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The weather department issued a 'yellow' alert, warning of traffic disruptions and inundation of low-lying areas due to rain.

The maximum temperature is expected to settle at 35 degrees Celsius, news agency Press Trust of India PTI reported.

Maximum temperatures are predicted to remain below the 40-degree until June 5.

On Tuesday, Delhi's base weather station, Safdarjung Observatory, recorded a maximum temperature of 35.9 degrees Celsius, which is five degrees below the normal temperature.
