Actor Thavasi, suffering from cancer, seeks financial aid

In a video that went viral, Tamil actor Thavasi was seen requesting contribution from his colleagues and his fans from Tamil film industry, for cancer treatment. The disease has severely affected the actor as he has lost a lot of weight as evident from the video itself.

Thavasi appealed to everyone through a video saying, “In a career spanning over 30 years, I have acted in movies starting from Kizhakku Cheemaiyile to the latest Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe. I never thought I’d be affected by such a disease. I am not able to talk properly. I am not able to do anything. I request people of the state and all my fellow actors in the industry to help me recover from this so that I will be able to continue my acting.”

The actor mentioned experiencing extreme difficulty in even swallowing due to the cancer. He also says that a tube may be fixed into his throat.

Thavasi’s unfortunate plight throws light on the sorry state of junior actors, who spend all their lives as extras on film sets in the hope of getting a big break. According to reports, actor Sivakarthikeyan, offered to help with his medical bills. Thavasi has featured in a minor role with Sivakarthikeyan in Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, a hit comedy film. Over the years,  Thavasi has played minor roles as an astrologer or village temple priests in several comedy films.

This is not the first incident where junior artists like Thavasi has suffered financial crisis and requested for help. Recently, the family of late actor Faraaz Khan has set up a fundraiser to collect Rs 25 lakhs for his treatment where later, it was revealed that actor Salman Khan funded his medical bills.
