Blackbuck poaching case: Rajasthan HC allows Salman Khan to appear via video conferencing

The High Court accepted Mr Khan's counsel's argument that travelling from Mumbai to Jodhpur amid the Covid-19 pandemic may pose threat to his health.

Bollywood actor Salman Khan on Friday was given permission by the Rajasthan High Court to appear before the Sessions court in Jodhpur through video conferencing. The High Court accepted Mr Khan's counsel's argument that travelling from Mumbai to Jodhpur amid the Covid-19 pandemic may pose threat to his health.

A bench of justices Indrajit Mahanty and Dinesh Mehta heard the appeal and conceded Counsel HM Saraswat's argument that Mr Khan will attract huge crowds in court premises which may also cause law and order issues. The bench said in the ruling that instead of appearing in person as the Sessions Court had directed, Mr Khan is allowed to appear through video links or video conferencing as this is in the "interest of justice."

Mr Saraswat said that the hearing is scheduled for Saturday which will be conducted through virtual mode. In the blackbuck poaching case, Mr Khan had been convicted and sentenced to five years in jail by the trial court on April 5, 2018. Currently, the case is being heard in the Sessions Court where Mr Khan had appealed against the ruling.
