Movie has been successful in bringing the crowd back to the theatres
Gangubai Kathiawadi has been receiving love from all the countries. Alia Bhatt has given a powerful performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial venture. The film earned more than Rs 10 crore at the box office on its very first day of release, February 25.
Alia Bhatt’s biggest career risk, Gangubai Kathiawadi, has paid off. The story revolves around a young woman, Gangubai, who ran the brothels in Mumbai's Kamathipura. On Saturday, 25 February 2022 the film released in theaters. On its opening day, the film raked in over Rs 10 crore in India.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#GangubaiKathiawadi surprises on Day 1 Opens higher than #Raazi [pre-Covid release] While the *industry/trade* was just expecting 6.25 cr - 7.25 cr, the strong word of mouth help biz escalate evening show onwards Fri 10.50 cr. #India biz (sic).”
Gangubai Kathiawadi is a biographical crime drama based on Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai.
Besides Alia Bhatt, the film stars Ajay Devgn, Parth Samthaan, Shantanu Maheshwari and Seema Pahwa in pivotal roles. This story is all about a woman Ganga who travels from Gujarat to Mumbai with her partner, but is betrayed and later sold off, ending up in a life of prostitution.
She then becomes a madame named Gangubai in the red-light area of Kamathipura and rises to great power.
