'Gangubai Kathiawadi' Movie Release And Live Updates

Sanjay Leela Bhansali - directorial is out on the big screen!

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi, starring Alia Bhatt in eponymous role, released in theaters today. The film, which was postponed multiple times amid the Pandemic.

It is a 2022 Indian Hindi - Language biographical crime drama film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and produced by Jayantilal Gada.

The film stars Alia Bhatt as the title character while Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari and Seema Pahwa play pivotal roles with Ajay Devgan.

The film is based on the true story of Gangubai Harjivandas, popularly Known as Gangubai Kathiawadi, whose life was documented in the Hussain S Zaidi's novel Mafia Queens of Mumbai.

The film follows the life of the then President of Kamathipura, the movie is about her journey from the time she was forced into prostitution and how she became a prominent and celebrated figure in the Kamithipura red - light district of Mumbai.

Gangubai isn't perfect. The film is about the choices she makes. She rides in the ranks and goes on to become a fierce madam of the brothel and a political leader.

She also championed the rights of sex workers and their children. Gangubai is a solid risk for both Bhansali and Alia. A risk that pays off beautifully for both director and his muse.

Alia deserves credit for attempting a character that's way beyond her reach. Alia Bhatt is surely taking home many awards.

Simply her career - best performance, she blows life into a historical character like she was born to play it and be a Sanjay Leela Bhansali heroine. The music in This film is entirely different from the last three albums of Bhansali.

Celebs such as Vicky Kaushal, Javed Akhtar and Shashank Khaitan also have also praised the film and Alia's performance.

Vicky wrote in an Instagram Story, "Absolutely shook by the sheer brilliance in this film. SLB Sir your a master! And @aliabhatt don't even know what to say about you...
