Huma Qureshi's Oscar victory : 'Army of the Dead' wins Oscar Fan Favorite Award

A pivotal role in the film


Zack Synder's directional 'Army of the Dead' won the Oscars Fan Favourite Award, which has been introduced for the first time this year. 

 

Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi has much to celebrate. Zack Synder's 'Army of the Dead', a movie in which Huma plays a pivotal role managed to win a fan award at the 94th Academy Awards. 

 

'Army of the Dead' had a limited release in theatres in the US on May 14, 2021 and it released on Netflix a week later on May 21, 2021. 

 

The newly - introduced unofficial award category Oscars Fan Favourite Award has been introduced for the first time by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in collaboration with Twitter to honour more mainstream, popular movies. As the award is an unofficial one, the winner does not get an Oscar trophy. 

 

'Army of the Dead' which streamed on Netflix, emerged as a winner, even through movies like 'Spider Man: No Way Home' was also in connection. The other movies included 'Tick Tick Boom!’ Minamata and Cinderella. 

 

Twitter users were allowed to vote up to 20 times a day during the 18 - days voting period for their favourites. Huma, who played Geeta, in 'Army of the Dead' took to her Twitter handle to celebrate the win and thank her fans for their votes. 

 

The actor wrote, "OMG! This just happened. We won an Oscar!! Thank you to the fans for voting. #ZackSnyder you are the boss @netflix Love to my cast mates and the whole crew!! #OscarFanFavorite #gratitude. One step closer...thank you 2022" 

 

Earlier, Huma had said in an interview, "Now that I'm in a way making my Hollywood debut, in a Zack Synder film, it is a big ensemble film, it is a much acclaimed director. I have never in my career gone for length of character. It's always about what my character is doing in the film." 

 

Zack Synder, the director of the movie had praised Huma's work in the film, he said, "She was written as an Indian character, and Huma is a really amazing actress, no two ways about it." 

 

Huma played a supporting role, Geeta, in Zack Synder's directional. Commenting on the opinion of some of her fans who said, she was a comparatively short role in the film, the actor told Bollywood Bubble, "I want to say thank you. I love Indian fans. The Indian public is mind - blowing. I did my first film in 2012, Gangs of Wasseypur, in which I was in an ensemble of actors. My role must have been hardly 15 minutes..." 

 

Huma Saleem Qureshi is an Indian actress and model who primarily appears in Hindi language films. She has also received three Filmfare Award nominations. Huma made her film debut with a supporting role in the two part 2012 crime drama Gangs of Wasseypur. She was praised for portrayal of the character of Rani Bharti in SonyLiv web series Maharani. 

 

Meanwhile, on the work front, Huma recently earned a lot of appreciation for her performance in H. Vinoth's directional Valimai, where she played a cop. Huma will next be seen in the second season of her hit web show Maharani, in a new OTT series Monica, O My Darling’, and the film double XL.
