International Emmy’s Best Drama Series Bagged By ‘Delhi Crime’

Delhi Crime adjudged Best Drama Series in Emmy Awards


At the 48th International Emmy Awards organized virtually due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, the web series Delhi Crime has won the Best Drama Series award. The official page of the International Emmy Award on Twitter confirmed the news last night. “The International Emmy For Drama Series goes to Delhi Crime produced by @Golden caravan/ @skglobalent/ @NetflixIndia tweeted @iemmys, with the hashtags #India!, #iemmys and #iemmyWIN”.

It was a seven episode series written and directed by Richie Mehta and starred Shefali Shah in the lead role of  DCP Vartika Chaturvedi who investigates the brutal and heinous Delhi gang rape of  December 2012.

The writer-director in his acceptance speech thanked all the producers, the OTT platform Netflix that steamed the show, the casting crew and the cast with a special mention of Shefali Shah his wife and his parents, the Sundance Film Festival and the Delhi Police Team headed by “Neeraj Kumar and the amazing Chhaya Sharma” who enabled them to bring the show alive.

“The Project was led by women, it was financed and put together and released by women, the crime was solved by women, this is for the courage of those women and all the women who not only endure the violence that so many men inflict on them, but then are tasked with solving the problem” said Richie Mehta.

A special tribute was also paid by Mehta to the victim and her mother where he said “Finally the fearless and tireless hero of all mothers and her daughter. Not a day goes by when I don’t think about you both and what the world subjects you two to, and I hope none of us ever forgets that”, said Mehta.

The drama series was based on the real story of a rape that happened in Delhi in December 2012, also features Rasika Dugal, Adil Hussain, Rajesh Tailang, Avijit Dutt, Gopal Dutt, Jaya Bhattacharya, Denzil Smith and Yashaswini Dayama in crucial and critical roles.

Shefali Shah shared a video on her official Instagram handle that showed the awards being announced. The moment the web series was declared as the winners in the Drama Series category, actress Shefali can be heard reacting with utmost joy where she can only be heard screaming “On my God” multiple times.

Actor Adil Hussain also congratulated the whole team of ‘Delhi Crime’ on his official twitter page followed by Rajesh Tailang’s congratulatory wishes to the whole team for the awesome work they delivered altogether.

Arjun Mathur who was also nominated for the Best Performance by an actor for his role in the series Made in Heaven lost his award to 13-year-old Billy Barratt for his role of Ray in Responsible Child.
