Kangana Ranaut who boldly comes out with her convincing and undaunted opinions criticized veteran cricketer Sunil Gavaskar for her demeaning and ignorant remark on Anushka Sharma. She condemned this event but fitted Anushka in frame of "Selective Feminism".
Veteran Cricketer and Commentator Sunil Gavaskar made a misquoted remark while presenting an IPL match between Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Bangalore on 24 September dragging Anushka's name in mid of Virat Kohli's unexpected failure to score that day. While in some unnecessary translations from Hindi to English or vice versa, the remark sounded atrocious and was portrayed in the light it wasn't intended to. This uninvited incident gave birth to disputed controversy and had blown criticism for Gavaskar on social media.
Soon, after the heated arguments that followed Anushka made a firm stand on her instagram account regarding the comment "distasteful" and unexpected from a senior cricketer to mock someone's personal life. She accepted that he might owe an explanation to the misinterpretation but disapproved of her being dragged in cricket unnecessarily.
Kangana backed Anushka on her stance by tweeting "Only a sex starved pervert will find sexual context to #SunilGavaskar’s statement which he made on national television for a woman, he should’ve not mentioned her, but Anushka is playing a cricketer in her next and there are several videos of her practising with her husband." The actress stood against the sexual context driven from statement. Soon she tweeted "#Anushka remained quiet when I was threatened and called Haramkhor but today the same misogyny coming to bite her, I condemn the fact that she was dragged in to cricket by #SunilGavaskar but selective feminism is equally uncool." and accused Anushka of being selectively feminist. When Kangana faced some hard time, Anushka didn't stand for her. But her indomitable spirit of feminism was quite evident when the tables were unintentionally reversed. The spirit of supporting should lie in integrity rather than selectivity.
