Saif Ali Khan in legal trouble for hurting religious sentiments.

Actor's comment on Raavan in 'Adipurush' draws flak

A case has been filed against bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan and director Om Raut by an advocate in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh over his recent interview about Adipurush, where the actor said the film would show the “humane” side of Ravan and “justify” his abduction of Sita.

In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Saif Ali Khan said a statement that stirred controversy and he faced a backlash. “It’s interesting to play a demon king, less strictures in that. But we will make him humane, up the entertainment quotient, justify his abduction of Sita and the war with Ram as revenge for what was done to his sister Surpanakha by Lakshman, who cut off his nose,” said the actor in an interview.

The next court hearing is scheduled for December 23 in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) in the Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The petitioner has claimed that the Saif Ali Khan’s interview is a negative portrayal of “faith” and “faith in Sanatan Dharma” as Lord Ram is considered as a symbol of good, while Raavan is viewed as evil.

The actor had retracted his statement and issued an apology and clarified that he did not intend to offer anyone. “I’ve been made aware that one of my statements during an interview, has caused controversy and hurt people’s sentiments. This was never my intention or meant that way. I would like to sincerely apologize to everybody and withdraw my statement. Lord Ram has always been the symbol of righteousness and heroism for me. Adipurush is about celebrating the victory of good over evil and the entire team is working together to present the epic without any distortions.”

Adipurush is directed by Om Raut in which south Indian film star Prabhas will play the role of Lord Ram while Saif Ali Khan will be seen in the antagonist Lankesh, based on Raavan.
