Screenwriter Utkarshini Says," Waited 10 years to make 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'

Glad that such a path-breaking female character is getting accepted!

Utkarshini Vashishtha, well known Screenwriter has also been in limelight due to her work, currently, she was seen with her work on the latest Movie Gangubai Kathiawadi.

During an interaction with the renowned Screenwriter Utkarshini Vashishtha many questions were asked;

First and Foremost we would greet her on the occasion of International Women's Day (March 8).

•During an interaction it was asked was writing a passion for her?

Replying to it she said, I was always an avid reader. I read up to 8 books a week from childhood and as a student, I won several creative writing contests. So yes, the love for writing was there always. But like any Indian child, I had to have a secure education first, Engineering and then MBA.

•How do you generate ideas? What are the key points you mainly focus on during the writing time?

Character and Research. I spend the most time reading up as much as I can about the characters, places, incidents, and history that I can. I always like to create as wholesome and complete a world as possible

•Knowing how it feels being a screenwriter, how she feels when it comes to results and limelight?

She says, Writing is a very lonely profession, we live with our story and our characters and breathe life in them, and then it becomes the Director’s baby. We have to wait and see how our baby will grow up to be. And when it finally reaches the audience and their hearts, that’s when all the lonely days and nights and struggles become worthwhile.

•We all know that it isn't that easy and smooth what we see in movies, knowing more in-depth about how she created it? How do you manage things with all positivity?

The renowned Screenwriter expresses, Writing is the first step. The blueprint of how your “taj mahal” will look. A writer has to learn to step away and then let others take over, the director, the actors, costumes, production design, camerawork…everything goes into what you see on the screen…I look at it as, kanyadaan

•How long did it take you to write a script for your latest work on Gangubai Kathiawadi?

Replying to it she says Sanjay Sir and I worked together non-stop for 4 weeks and finished this screenplay. But then there was almost a 10-year wait to have it made, and we worked and revised the screenplay almost every year…this was a long long journey.

•How is the response after the release of Gangubai Kathiawad?

It is thrilling and I am very glad that the story of such a path-breaking female character is getting accepted and getting so much love.

Not only this, but Utkarshini Vashishtha has also worked in Ramleela as Associate Director with SLB, Sarbjit as the screenwriter for Omung Kumar. Before films she was the Creative Head for Zee TV Middle East, She has also worked as an Executive producer and Creative director on many shows like Saregamapa, X-factor, India’s got tale. And Currently, She is working on series and movies for multiple production houses and platforms.

•Being a mother and also working constantly, how do you manage everything in terms of the daily schedule and all?

Responding to it, she says, it’s not easy, honestly. Especially in the US where we have no domestic help. I have two daughters. My younger one is an infant. And I resumed work when she was 2 weeks old, despite having a very difficult delivery. But I have been raised by a single mother who was extremely hardworking and showed me that anything and everything is possible. Her favorite line is, beta time hota nahi hai time banana padta hai...

•How did you begin your work with Bollywood movies?

I met Sanjay Sir, during X Factor shoots. He was the judge and I was the associate creative director. He became my mentor and I expressed to him that I wanted to write. He gave Gangubai to me as a test and I guess I passed with flying colors. And that was the first step

On the Occasion of International Women's Day She says, Motherhood is power. And you don’t have to birth a child to feel that power, anyone who has loved, cared, and stood up fiercely for anything in their life is a Mother. And I tell all the mothers out there, YOU CAN DO ANYTHING...

•Knowing about the upcoming projects?

I have finished writing a very powerful story about very strong gender issues in our country. I hope it will get made soon and resonate with people

•How's that feeling when people know you, how's that vibe, and what motivates you to go more?

I want people to know my work, to know where I come from, and know that anything is possible. My mother was a victim of domestic abuse, barely 21 when she had me and she has got me this far. I want people to know that and see strength in themselves.
