Superstar Shah Rukh Khan meets son Aryan Khan at Arthur Road Jail

According to the Maharashtra government Covid-19 guidelines, no outsider was permitted to meet the jail inmates earlier.

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Thursday visited Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail to meet his son Aryan Khan for the first time after he was arrested in connection with the drugs-on-cruise case. The 23-year-old Aryan was arrested along with seven others by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on October 3.

Aryan's bail plea was again rejected by the Mumbai local court on Wednesday citing his regular indulgence in "illicit drug activities." According to the court, accused Aryan Khan's WhatsApp chats prima facie revealed that he was a regular consumer of drugs. Hence, the court rejected his bail plea saying that "it cannot be said that Khan is not likely to commit similar offence while on bail," Judge VV Patil said in his order.

The court also noted that though no drugs were found in possession of Aryan, six grams of "charas" was recovered from his friend Arbaaz Merchant's shoe and it seemed Aryan knew about it. The court said that all facts prima facie show that the accused "acted in conspiracy with each other."

Last week, Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan had a video call with their son as according to the Maharashtra government Covid-19 guidelines, no outsider was permitted to meet the jail inmates earlier. The state government has relaxed Covid-19 restrictions owing to the festival season including the jail visit rules.

Reportedly, Aryan Khan had broken into tears over the video call with his parents. After the bail plea was rejected, an appeal was filed in the High Court challenging the lower court's order.
